4 Ways To Save A Bad Hair Day

Once in a while, we all experience a bad hair day. A bad hair day can occur because you simply do not feel like doing your hair, you try a new hairstyle that doesn’t come out so well, or your hair acts like it has a mind of its own. Instead of giving up your tresses, there are a few things you can do to correct this problem.

Here are four quick ways to save your lovely tresses:

Disguise under a Scarf or Hat

When you do not feel like doing your hair or you want to tuck your hair away for a day, putting on a hat or a scarf is a great option. You can easily cover disastrous bad hair day with a pretty scarf simply tied around your tresses. Or, you can take it to another level by wearing a hat such as a fedora or large brim hit.

Emergency Ponytail/Bun

Ladies, we all have woken up to a failed attempt of a new hairdo or to a product not working as it should. It’s time to grab your bobby pins and an elastic band for a messy bun or a ponytail. The bun and ponytail are easiest and quickest hairstyle you can do. If you want to spice it up, add a headband to look more stylish.

Layer on the Accessories

When you have a cute accessory, there is no way your hair will look a mess. So, make sure you always have a lot of hair accessories. Headbands, turbans, barrettes, head wraps, oversized bows, and oversized flowers are all worth investing in.

Be Bold and Work It

Looking perfect 24/7 is a hard thing to do and sometimes impossible to do. If you don’t want to wear a hat, an accessory, or your hair in a bun, just work with what you got. Be confident with your hair whether one side of your hair isn’t agreeing with the other or you hair has a static cling to it. We all can’t look like a cover of a magazine every single day.

How do you deal with bad hair days?

5 Hair Removal Tips To Help You Stay GLAM This Summer!

Summer is here and with it comes the opportunity to show a little skin. Here are some tips to help you get smooth, hair-free skin just in time for the season’s sizzling temperatures.

1. Keep skin hydrated and protected.
It probably seems like moisturize is becoming an overused word in the beauty world, but it’s so important to keep your hair, skin and body hydrated. Right after shaving, you should use a fragrance-free moisturizer or even coconut oil to avoid chaffing. Moisture also helps minimize irritation after a waxing treatment. And to put it plainly, dry skin is an absolute beauty faux pas (a total SHAM!).
Also, always wear SPF…this is in the Beauty Bible.

2. If you get a wax, make sure your spa technician doesn’t double dip.
One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing a spa professional use the same stick in a huge container of wax that they’ve used on multiple clients. It’s unsanitary and just plain gross! They should use a new stick after each time they apply the wax to your body, or either use a separate canister of wax for each person. Don’t be afraid to bring this to their attention if they aren’t. I squirm at the thought of having the same wax applied to my eyebrows that was used for someone’s Brazilian!

3. Exfoliate.
One of the best ways to avoid irritation and have smoother skin after removing hair is to exfoliate. You can exfoliate pretty much any part of the body. By doing so prior to a spa visit or DIY  treatment, you’re prepping skin for the hair removal process.
Your bikini area is usually the most prone to ingrown hairs because the hair down there is usually more coarse than other parts of the body. You can use a gentle scrub to exfoliate skin a couple of days before waxing or shaving to alleviate that problem.

4. Always test depilatory products before use.
If you use a depilatory such as Nair or Veet, it’s imperative that you do a test area the night before you plan to use it. Although they’re usually safe on most skin types, an allergic reaction can occur (and you’d HATE for that to happen right before you’re supposed to head to the beach!).
Also, make sure you read the label because some products were created to be used on specific parts of the body. The face is a very sensitive place to remove hair so a treatment that removes hair from there isn’t ideal for a part of the body with longer, stronger hair such as the legs.

5. Try something new.
This past weekend, I tried a new enzyme-based hair removal treatment called the Depilar System. It’s a post-wax, threading or plucking treatment that helps stunt the growth of hair. After my legs were waxed, the spa professional massaged the Depilar cream into my skin and I was good to go! It’s painless and I got a free massage out of the deal. This treatment can be used anywhere on both men and women. Note: if you’re allergic to salicylic acid, this is not for you.
Depliar usually takes having treatments every 4-6 weeks over a 12-26 month period but if you do the math over a lifetime of salon visits, this could be a wise beauty investment. The price ranges from $20-$100+ depending on the area of the body you’re having treated. I love my results so far which shows it pays to be open to new (and sometimes more efficient) hair removal procedures.

Do You Wear Makeup to the Gym?

Raise your hand if you applied any makeup before hitting the gym. Before stepping foot on the treadmill, I apply a dab of lip balm and make sure I have on a pair of earrings. I refuse to leave the house without the two. And it seems I’m not alone. A recent poll shows 7 out of 10 women admit they apply makeup before going to work out.

The poll also reveals mascara is the most popular workout wonder with two out of five women admitting they apply mascara to their lashes before doing any form of exercise in public. Foundation comes in second and lipgloss comes in third.

With pictures of Lala, Kelly Rowland and other celebrities going to the gym all dolled up, many women feel pressure to look good even at the gym. Not to mention the fact that some ladies see it as a viable place to meet men. For other women, looking their best gives them more motivation and confidence throughout their workout. And looking good means applying some form of makeup even if they’re going to sweat that mascara and foundation off as soon as they start to move.

If you must wear makeup to the gym, here are a few tips to still look great while breaking a sweat:

1. For your lips, try a moisturizing balm instead of lipstick.

2. Use a tinted moisturizer to even skin tone without risking a cakey look that can occur from sweating through foundation.

3. Use waterproof mascara.

4. Use a bandanna or a sweat band to help control your sweat. It will keep both your hair and sweat out of your eyes while you get your workout on.

How To Avoid Makeup Foundation Catastrophes

Make-up foundation can be your best friend and your worst enemy, if not used correctly. We’ve all seen the photos of women with horrible make-up jobs. Most recently a photo of  hit the internet, and lets just say, her makeup was quite chalky and white looking. Speculation ranged from Bledsoe dealing with vitiligo, or just make-up gone bad.  I think it’s just a bad case of makeup and lighting.
- “A woman should always match her foundation on her jaw line and double-check it in the direct sunlight. It can be tricky for women of color, as we oftentimes have a few different tones to our complexion. Stripe the shade (or several shades) of foundation on the lower portion of your jaw between your ear and chin.

- As a rule of thumb – match your makeup to your neck! You don’t want your face to be lighter than the rest of your body, that’s not hot in these streets. This seems to be where a lot of women go wrong, and end up with a shade or two lighter or darker than their complexion.
- Is there a foundation that’s better than the other? Among the options include liquid foundation and powder foundation. According to another makeup artist  it all depends on your skin type. “If you’re an oilier skin type a powder might be better for you. You’re not adding anymore moisture to the skin, and you can take the powder with you to touch up later in case of shine. That being said, a lot of these mineral powders have jojoba oil in them, be mindful of the ingredients in your powder, and aware of the claims it’s making. If you’re a drier skin type a liquid will probably suit you better. It can give you the added moisture your skin needs, and will be less likely to pick up on any texture your skin might have.”
- One of the biggest makeup mistakes  is not adding a translucent powder to your makeup, “Not setting your makeup with a translucent powder is a major makeup faux pas. If you’re wearing a liquid or creme foundation — you need to dust a light layer of powder over your makeup. Unless your creme or liquid makeup dries down to a powder on its own, you’ll need to set it with powder to ensure it doesn’t slide off of your face by the end of the day.

-Your skin produces oils/sebum naturally — once that happens it joins forces with your makeup and tends to cause you to look extremely oily. The pigments in the makeup begin to breakdown and move on your face due to the natural oils in the skin. It may seem like an extra step, but it’s very necessary. What’s the point in applying makeup if you’re just going to let it slide off?”
-To avoid foundation disasters, it’s probably best to let the professionals help you. Take the time out to stop by your favorite makeup counter and let one of the artists figure out the best color for you, as well as other products that can be beneficial. No one wants to get caught out there looking 2 shades to light or dark.

Revealed: How pollution can add YEARS to your face - And the seven steps you need to beat it

  • EXCLUSIVE: Air pollutants rob skin cells of oxygen and encourage free radicals
  • How to pollution-proof skin
  • Antioxidants are a vital part of your morning regime to protect skin all day
  • Double cleansing in evening will prep skin for absorbing restorative products

You may be diligent about applying your anti-wrinkle creams and staying out of the sun, but your efforts could be in vain due to the ageing affects of pollution on the skin.
And even if you don't live in a big city, indoor pollution from wood-burning stoves,  gas cookers and  cleaning products can be an equally damaging culprit.
Now here are some How to combat the effects.

1. Use antioxidant products
'Antioxidants are a vital component of modern skincare to help protect against ageing and tissue damage caused by pollution and environmental free radicals, Antioxidants protect the skin by binding with free radicals, preventing them from attaching to healthy skin cells in a process termed quenching.

2. Beat inflammation
'This helps ensure the integrity of these cells, promoting healthier, more radiant-looking skin.
To protect your skin, Facial oils containing antioxidants and vitamins to help subdue glycation and prevent free radical damage, recharging and revitalising skin at a cellular level.

3. Double cleanse
'Double cleansing might be necessary, especially if wearing make-up.
'Thoroughly removing make-up along with daily grime is essential to keep skin clean, fresh and healthy.
It also prepares the skin for maximum absorption of much-needed repair products such as night creams and oils.

4. Embrace the super cleanse
You don’t need to do this every day, but now and then it’s nice to give skin a "super cleanse"
A super cleanse is best done at night, and involves double cleansing with a balm and then a cream.
Follow with a rich moisturiser and an antioxidant facial oil, followed by a replenishing night cream

 5. Use clay in your routine
'A weekly exfoliation and mask treatment are good additions to your usual routine.
'Look for a mask containing Kaolin clay, which is brilliant for dull, tired skin.
'Kaolin deeply cleanses and purifies, thoroughly removing soot and other microscopic particles that can build up in the pores of the skin.'

6. Make time for facials - at home or in the salon
Of course, you might want to entrust the job of repairing your skin to a professional with a trip to the salon.
'There are some really effective facial treatments for deep cleansing and helping to eliminate waste from the skin. A good facial can really boost the skin’s radiance,'
'That said, you don’t have to spend a fortune at high-end salons - can do a great job at home too, if you’ve some good quality products and take an hour or so out for some personal pampering time.'

7. Swap to a cleansing oil
Switching your heavy creamy cleanser for a light refreshing cleansing oil during the warmer months.
This will gently but effectively dissolve daily dirt and make-up without stripping the skin of moisture which can leave it tight or dry, another red flag for the appearance of wrinkles.

AIRBRUSH AWAY ALL YOUR WRINKLES !

Wouldn't it be great if you could airbrush your face in real life? Blur wrinkles, lighten dark circles and put a soft-focus filter over everything?
Make-up has always been able to give us a helping hand, but a new generation of smart cosmetics contain ingredients that reflect and diffuse light, making it so easy to conceal and correct.

Here's our guide on how to do it...
Start with primer
If you're going to buy only one new product, make it a primer. These multi-purpose wonders moisturise skin, as well as creating a flawless canvas that anchors foundation.

Flawless foundation
The newest foundations put light-reflecting technology center stage, with impressive results. To achieve a flawless finish for any foundation, apply with an Optical Blurring Brush. The rounded tip and close-packed bristles buff and polish the product into the skin, rather than just layering it on.

Estee Lauder's Invisible Fluid Make-up, £27
Boots No.7 Intense Radiance, £12.99

Don't forget concealer
Brush on, then use your finger to gently pat it into place.
If you use it on blemishes, be sure to add a dab of face powder on top or the highlighting concealer will draw attention to them.
Metallic eyeliner
 Shimmering eye shadow
Eye shadows that play with light are frequently glittery or frosted, so, for anyone older than 25, can feel too young or old-fashioned.

However,  under the brow and in the inner corner of the eyes for a subtle effect that lifts the eye.

Light-reflecting pigments in eyeliner sound unnecessary, but make-up innovator have come up with a lower-lash liner that will make your eyes look huge. A pale metallic pink kohl that glides on easily and gently bounces light to open up the eye.

Perfect your pout
Glosses are the conventional go-to for boosting lips as they reflect more light than lipsticks. But they can look a bit teenage.

New generation lippies,  offer serious shine and strong, lasting colour, so you get the same effect without a gloopy gloss.

Finishing touches

Powder is used to mattify, but a dewy finish is more youthful — there's no danger of that powdery-old-lady look.

The latest products offer the best of both worlds with silica-based formulations that moisturise skin.

Good news for slimmers with a sweet tooth: Now Pepsi launches FAT-BLOCKING soft drink

Pepsi special contains dextrin, which is used as a diet aid to reduce 'bad cholesterol' in the blood

  • Pepsi Special contains dextrin, which reduces fat absorption
  • The cola-flavoured fizzy drink will first be launched in Japan

  • If you're watching your weight but diet soft drinks have never been to your taste, there could now be an alternative.
Tomorrow Pepsi are launching a version of its cola drink that it claims acts as a fat blocker.
Pepsi Special is made with dextrin - an indigestible form of dietary fibre. Studies on rats suggest this can reduce the absorption of fat in the body and lower cholesterol levels.
There is no information about how much sugar and corn-syrup it contains, compared to standard Pepsi, but a spokesman said it would have a 'crisp refreshing and unique' aftertaste.
The drink, which will first be sold in Japan, comes in a 'luxury' gold and black bottle with the Pepsi logo emblazoned on the side.
Pepsi hope the drink will have the same runaway success as the Japanese drink Kirin Mets Cola, which also contains dextrin.
It will be distributed by Suntory International.
It is not the first time that Pepsi have released unusual versions of its drink in Japan. In the past they have sold cucumber and yoghurt-flavoured colas. This Christmas they will be selling Pepsi White, which will have a tangerine tang.
Pepsi Special, which will cost 150Yen or £1.20, joins a crowded functional food market in Japan. Here consumers can find everything from fat-fighting chocolate bars to age-defying alcoholic cocktails.
There is no word yet on if and when Pepsi Special will go on sale in the U.S and Europe.

    KNOW YOUR FRAGRANCE GAME

It’s time to trade in the light, fruity scents of sensuality to the alluring fragrances, once you’ve found a product that’s pleasing to your senses, you have to know how to wear it to get the most out of the intoxicating juice.

Check out these basic rules that will help improve your perfume-wearing experience:

    Don’t Rub Your Wrists Together
    http://cache1.asset-cache.net/gc/75627482-woman-spraying-perfume-with-perfume-atomizer-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=9KgvVCfhtshdtaWp1efc6WFoAuv81F6RGoWMYIPDqhY%3d
One of the biggest mistakes women make when spraying a scent is rubbing their wrists together. The friction causes the scent to settle in a different way than the maker intended. Instead, just spray and let it dry.

    Perfume and Hair Don’t Mix
     http://cache4.asset-cache.net/gc/57158579-woman-spraying-hairspray-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=VEeXtN54vKhegxVc6jE8mxnfvMPxGzHjM0shfUAHaoA%3d
There are some ladies who are quick to spritz their hair with a hint of their favorite scent or mix it with their regular hair sprays ! While this is not completely detrimental to your hair, it could still have adverse affects. There are several potentially harmful chemicals used to create scents such as dye, alcohol and blends of different fragrances. In addition, the shampoo, conditioner and even the natural oils that your scalp produces could alter the aesthetic of the fragrance.

    Focus on Hitting Pulse Points
     http://cache3.asset-cache.net/gc/CA25487-woman-spraying-perfume-on-her-wrist-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=7pwLGNPq7tONcVTDUQMMsODl%2b2oA9R2dcxZvzxCrtD8%3d
More ideal pulse points to target with your favorite perfume is the base of the throat, behind the ear lobes, between your breasts, the backside of the elbows and along the collarbones. If you’re rocking a fab skirt, dress or pair of shorts during a night on the town, aim for the back of your knees.

Just Because It’s Right For Your Friend Doesn’t Mean It’s Right For You
    http://cache2.asset-cache.net/gc/77146833-hispanic-female-sales-clerk-helping-customer-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=wDhw%2fDWXEBIWh2qBYX16WgB9vvKch%2f35iMEmeiTlP%2bs%3d
Have you ever felt like your favorite perfume suddenly stopped smelling the same on your skin? Well, chances are, you’re not hallucinating. Your hormones can affect the way a fragrance reacts, especially if you’re stressed, menstruating or pregnant. The way a skin reacts with your skin can be a gift and a curse. It’s a gift because as human beings we all have our very own unique body chemistry and ph balance, so even if we all buy the same scent, it will smell different on each of our skin giving us our own signature smell with every application.

Don’t Forget Perfume Has a Shelf Life
     http://cache4.asset-cache.net/gc/LS006092-perfume-on-a-nightstand-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=11942ImbZatAjSRKFpkJ%2fmW3kkoogGx18oRcG0%2fUGCA%3d
Perfume has a shelf life of about three years. To me this is just an industry rule of thumb because I have some bottles on my vanity that I’ve held onto for a little longer than that. They don’t smell different to me, but maybe they have changed over time. Also, avoid storing them near direct sunlight or areas with high temperature.

    Try it Out: Plum Lips

When it comes to the latest in beauty trends we’d be remiss not to mention the return of this season’s famous dark-colored pout. We first saw the deep, plum lip on Rihanna in 2008 at the BET Awards, and since then a number of celebrities and fashion designers alike have adopted the trend to compliment their looks.
The berry-like shade is the perfect combination of a feminine edge without being too sinister. Just like all trends, while it may not work for you specifically, we’d like to think you’d consider switching up your routine and give it a whirl, even if you don’t have the guts to leave the house with it on.
Here are a couple of tips on how to wear the festive trend without looking washed out:
    1. Dark shades can very be unforgiving so be sure to exfoliate your lips to avoid any cracks or peeling. For an at-home method, liberally apply Vitamin E oil with a pinch or two of sugar and brush your lips with a dry toothbrush.
    2. The key to executing the dramatic dark lip is to keep it simple with minimal eye makeup. A peach or brown eye is ideal. Also remember that matte lip colors look best with darker colors (think wines and raspberries).

Brighter Smile, Better Breath: Easy Ways To Get There

There is nothing worse than opening your mouth to spark a conversation only to find that the person you’re addressing can smell your words before they hear them. Bad breath is a social no-no– It’s never a good look for your breath to be a weapon of mass destruction! Whether you have bouts with bad breath or someone you know does, here are some breath-saving tips to follow.
    Quick Fixes:
    1. Eat an orange! The citric acid stimulates the salivary glands and encourages the flow of breath-freshening saliva.
    2. Skip dessert and eat cheese.  “Not only does the bacteria in cheese combat bad breath, you get a giant boost of calcium.
    3. If you forget your toothbrush… celery, carrots and apples can help. “(They)… contain fibers that get into the crevices between teeth and clean them by acting like miniature toothbrushes.”
    4. Go green for a pretty smile. A salad with Greek yogurt dressing are the best meal for your teeth. The repetitive chewing of the salad promotes saliva production, and the fibers in the leaves contribute to the cleansing of teeth. The yogurt dressing is the icing on the cake– it combats bad breath.
    Long-Term Fixes:
    1. Eat Yogurt. According to dentists, studies have shown that the active bacteria in yogurt, specifically Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, may have a beneficial effect on odor-causing bacteria in the mouth
    2. Stop smoking or chewing tobacco-based products. Enough said.
    3. Watch what you eat. Coffee, onions and garlic all usually have a lingering fragrance, so think twice before ingesting them before a meeting, date or social gathering.
    4. Brush and Floss daily. Sounds like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised by the number of people who break this pattern on the regular. (You can tell by the look of their teeth and the smell of their breath! lol)! “Plaque and bacteria that accumulates on your teeth and under your gumline may be the underlying cause of odor. Also, be sure to visit your dentist twice a year for a checkup and professional cleaning.”
