Why You Should Wax Before Saying I do-Ada Osigwe

▪Doesn’t every Bride want Silky smooth skin for longer leading up to their wedding day and honeymoon?
▪Every Bride to be is sure to opt for a waxing session before the wedding to ensure that her body and anything else she wants (“intimate area”) are nice and smooth for the big day. Waxing is a great way to get ready for your wedding and honeymoon. With a wax right before the wedding, there will also be no need to shave throughout your honeymoon, and you can feel comfortable in your bikini. As gone are the days of shaving, besides, nothing ruins the look of a cute new bikini quite like razor burns. Right…??
▪Waxing removes hair for a longer period of time with the hair being removed at the root leaving lasting results of up to 3-4 weeks before hair re-growth.
▪Legs, hands, eyebrows and facial hair waxing are the most common waxes brides go for regularly. Back and full body waxes are also very common amongst brides to be now. The other more specific types of waxing leading up to the big day are the Intimate areas: The Bikini/Thong wax, Brazilian and the Hollywood. A bikini/thong wax removes hair from the crease of the leg, Sides & High Top. A Brazilian wax removes hair from the front, back and everywhere in between leaving a feminine landing strip and the Hollywood well, No hair is left behind, clean as a whistle. So, brides choose the one you want and are most comfortable with.

The History of Hair Removal

Waxing is undoubtedly one of the most common methods of hair removal. Of course there are a variety of ways to get rid of body hair like: shaving, hair removal creams, threading, epilation and laser. But In this day and age you can easily get rid of any unwanted hair on your body from your face to your intimate area right down to your toes.

Let's take a look back at where it all started from and why?
▪The Egyptians may have been the forerunners of many beauty rituals, but they invested the most time into hair removal. Women of ancient Egypt removed all of their body hair, including that on their heads, with tweezers (made from seashells) and pumice stones. OUCH!!!
▪It is commonly agreed that full body hair removal originated in Middle Eastern countries. It is thought to have come about as a response to body odour that can be common in a hot climate. It became a religious ritual to promote cleanliness and purification.
▪During the Roman Empire, the lack of body hair was considered a sign of the classes. Wealthy women and men used razors made from flints, tweezers, creams, and stones to remove excess hair. Again OUCH!!! In fact, even pubic hair was considered uncivilized which is why many famous statues and paintings of Grecian women are painted hairless.
▪During the 1950s, hair removal became more publically accepted. Since many depilatory creams were still irritating to the skin, women relied on razors to shave their legs and underarms and tweezers to groom and shape their eyebrows.
▪Wax strips made their début in the 1960s and quickly became the method of choice for removing unwanted hair under the arms and on the legs.
▪Today, most women rely on some form of hair removal in their everyday beauty routines, whether it is hair removal creams, tweezing, threading, shaving or waxing. Waxing bars, salons and studios, are at an all time high and continue to rise as waxing is one of the most highly requested treatments in beauty salons across the world.
▪So, whatever method you use, the main reason behind hair removal has always been about hygiene and class!
But if the old methods are anything to go by, I think we would all happily choose waxing any day of the week, wouldn't you agree?

Waxing As a Body care Regimen: The Myths Of Waxing: Ada Osigwe

Body waxing is one of the best ways to remove hair temporarily, though the results are much longer lasting than the results of shaving and other temporary hair removal techniques. It can be done in a professional spa or at home.
Generally there are a lot of schools of thoughts on Waxing , but Ada Osigwe, Founder of Eve-Olution Makeup & Beauty Waxing Salon, spoke with Tribe and Elan, clearing a lot of doubts on Waxing.
She said “Why is it that the highest requested treatment around the world is not being requested here within our Nigerian community... So, to wax or not to wax...???That is the question I am asking Lagos... Now I know there are still a lot of unanswered questions here in Lagos around this method of hair removal and not enough knowledge and information been given of the benefits of this particular beauty treatment. The waxing services I offer are for black/melonated skin types and my application and technique of what I do has been designed to cater for black skin and black hair removal.”

Here are some myths about waxing as stated by Ada Osigwe
Hair will grow back thicker - Many believe removing the hair on a regular basis will cause it to grow back thicker and darker. That could not be so far from the truth, if you’re consistent with your wax you will start to notice the hair grow back thinner, sparser and the rate of which it grows slows down as well. This is due to the hairs being pulled from the root eventually weakening the hair follicle where the hair grows from.
Waxing really Hurts - How much it hurts depends on the person, it is expected to experience some discomfort but this is not to be feared as having a professional carry out the wax with special waxing techniques and products will keep the discomfort to a minimum. Numbing creams applied or taking painkillers like aspirin or ibuprofen 30mins before treatment will also help.
I can't wax on my period - You can wax during your period. If wanting a Brazilian or Hollywood wearing a tampon is advised, also waxing larger areas of the body whilst on your period might hurt a bit more than normal as the skin tends to be more sensitive during your cycle.
It's Embarrassing - Not if you’re with a professional. A technician with years of experience will take or should take into consideration the nature of the treatment being carried out and should make you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible during waxing services
You can't wax whilst your pregnant - You can wax whilst you’re pregnant. I would only advise that you start waxing after your 1st trimester and once you have been given the all clear from your Dr. Also bear in mind that your skin will be more sensitive during pregnancy so expect a bit more discomfort than usual.
