Regardless of your age or complexion, here are some tips to keep in mind to protect your skin from unwanted discoloration:
Exfoliate
People of color have slower cellular turnover so buildup (AKA ashiness) occurs. Combat discoloration by exfoliating. Whether you use an at-home remedy or turn to your go-to product from your favorite skincare line, exfoliating your skin at least once a week is key. Not only does this remove old skin cells, but it gives you a radiant glow once completed. A quick way to tell it’s time to exfoliate is to take a piece of clear tape and apply it to your forehead. If there are little flakes on the tape, it’s time to freshen up!
Milk
Many times, we focus on treating the exposed portions of the skin such as the face and hands, but our whole body needs proper TLC. One way to ensure you’re covering all the bases is with a long, soothing milk bath. Your skin will be supple and smooth afterward. Ward off sun damage and discoloration by using a sun milk product with SPF.
Massage your face daily
Sick of dark circles? Treat yourself to a facial massage for a couple of minutes. This will stimulate blood flow, which calms the nervous system. Look for a product that contains vitamin K, as this ingredient is known to aid with puffiness. The results will be less puffiness and irritation. Use an eye cream around your peepers and kiss dark circles goodbye.
Use a daytime and nighttime cream
It’s pivotal that you use a moisturizer with SPF on your skin during the day to fight off those vicious UV rays and other environmental skin-altering elements. But keep in mind that it’s just as important to use a facial cream at night. Your refreshed skin will thank you in the morning.
Don’t forget to reapply SPF
Just because you’ve dabbed on sun protection prior to leaving home, it doesn’t mean you’re done for the day. Depending on the amount of sun exposure you have, you might have to top off your skin every couple of hours or so. This will definitely be the case if you’re soaking up the sun at the beach. You can never be too careful when protecting your skin from the sun.
