It's the
fourth instalment of BLOKE LOUNGE, a bi-monthly music and mingling event
hosted by BLOKE Magazine. This time the organizers have made a slight
switch from the predominant music fest of former editions, to spotlight
the growing menace of domestic violence and the plight of women living
under this scourge.
MINDBENDING
according to Omena Daniels "seeks to throw up discussions on physical
and psychological abuse in relationships and its effects on women".
With the strong support of Complete Fashion, BellaNaija and Project
Alert for Violence Against Women, and media support from Rhythm 93.7FM
and City 105.1FM, this fun evening will feature a high panel of discussants
which include Mrs Bukky George (CEO HealthPlus & Casabella), Mrs
Josephine Chukwuma (ED, Project Alert for Violence Against Women), Mr
Fela Durotoye (Author of Mr Fantastic), Chris Ihidero (Writer and producer
of 'Big Daddy') and Uche Jombo (Actor and Executive producer 'Damage').
"The
'Girls Night-Out' themed event will have a large attendance of beautiful
and powerful women throwing their weight behind the cause" Omena
adds. MindBending kicks off at 5pm on Sunday 20th May at the brand-new
Shaunz Bar and lounge, Murphis Plaza, Sanusi Fafunwa, Victoria Island.
It would feature a private screening of 'Big Daddy', a short film on
rape by Chris Ihidero, a short skit by Lala Akindoju, Joseph Benjamin
on the mic, and Kome's performance of Uche Jumbo's movie soundtrack,
"Damage''
There will
be a raffle draw with a variety of gifts from an array of designers
such as TTDALK, EJIRO AMOS TAFIRI, AKPOS OKUDU, TOSHO WOODS, 1407STYLE,
STYLE TEMPLE, NACK SHIRTS, RENEES AND CLARKES, SEKU, OVERALL BESPOKE
APPAREL, and the icing on the cake is an all star karaoke session.
From its
first edition of Bloke Lounge, the organisers have emphasised the casual
atmosphere that would encourage people to mingle and expand their network,
laying greater emphasis on creating a hub, a 'mixer' of some sort against
the backdrop of music. Bloke Lounge has succeeded in the last 3 editions
to pull the musical talents of OC Ukeje, Timi Dakolo, Ibiyemi, Praiz,
Eric Arubayi, Jodie, Pita and a host of others. A few musical surprises
including TV superstar Yvonne Vixen Ekwere and Fashion entrepreneur
Uche Nnaji have also graced the stage.
