Miss Universe Canada Finalist Disqualified For Being Transgender

Beauty queen Jenna Talackova a Miss Universe Canada-to-be was disqualified. The 23-year-old Canadian bombshell was eliminated from running for the Donald Trump pageant for being born biologically male.

The 6-foot-1 beauty, who was named a finalist among 65 candidates, had undergone sexual reassignment surgery, which is supposed grounds for elimination by the organization. In a statement released Friday, Miss Universe Canada said that Talackova “did not meet the requirements to compete” after specifying she was born female on her application.

National director of Miss Universe Canada Denis Davila told The Toronto Star that while they consider Talackova to be a “real girl,” Miss Universe rules stipulate that contestants must be a “naturally born female.”

While some have applauded her participation in the pageant, others have argued that the competition should be limited to those who were born biologically female. In a society where the definition of beauty is constantly changing, was Talackova’s disqualification from Miss Universe Canada justified?
