How To Choose The Right Red Lipstick For Your Skin Tone

Who says black women can’t wear red lipstick?
The most flattering lip tones will be one or two shades darker than your natural lip color, according to makeup artists....

1. Women with fair skin, look great in lipstick shades such as nudes in a slightly apricot shade, pinks and light corals. Stay away from browns, which will appear blah.

2. Those with a medium skin tone can go a bit darker. You’ll look great in roses, mauves and berries. Skip the bright reds and consider a deep burgundy instead.

3. Deep plum, chocolate or red is fabulous with dark skin.Women with dark skin “can go in one of two directions: toward brown or purple. Think caramel or walnut for day, and plum or wine for evening.”
One big red lipstick no-no: It’s best not to match lips to your outfit.

  1. I loathe generalizations when it comes to black women and makeup. Skin undertone is MORE IMPORTANT when selecting a red lipstick shade v/s general skin color range ( eg light, medium, dark skinned). The idea that dark skinned women should stick to plums and wines is archaic....<----coming from a light skinned blk woman who wears whatever looks fresh on her....smh
